With a background in textiles, Piper's current studio practice involves textile pattern design with both historical and contemporary references. She creates works that engage cloths interaction with architecture. Her process involves cutting cloth by hand to create large-scale textiles that reside in site-specific environments. The patterns she composes include traditional and contemporary sensibilities. Her large-scale works are patterned screens or scrims that allow light and shadow to transform space. The piece in this auction is a study for a larger work called Lace Meander.
