Dan Dudrow Biography
Grew up in West Virginia, Texas and Louisiana. Went 2 years to LSU, 1958-60. Transferred to RISD in 1960. Yale-Norfolk scholar, 1962. RISD European Honors Program in Italy, 1962-63. Lived in New York 1963-1965, worked at the Museum of Modern Art, maintained a studio at West Broadway Broome Street. Came to MICA to attend grad school in 1965. MFA Painting, 1967. Taught at Mr. Vernon Junior College in D.C. 1967-69. Taught classes at MICA 1969-70, became full-time in 1970, have taught here since.
My teaching philosophy: primarily intuitive but stresses empathy, seriousness and clarity, plus staying abreast of issues and developments in the art world at large. I try to focus on students as individuals. I'm the father of two grown daughters, plus one grandson. My painting has veered between traditional realism and color-based abstraction for 30 years. Currently, it's abstract but could change again. I follow the muse and don't ask questions. I have shown my work sporadically, mostly in the Baltimore-D.C. area. My last gallery show was at Gallery K in D.C. in 2001. Have also had numerous institutional and alternative space shows--one approaching at the Pinkard Gallery in Fall 2005.
