Youngmi Song was born in Korea and studied traditional oriental painting since she was 15. She received her BFA at Chunnam University in Kwangju, Korea. In 1996, she came to United State of America for her studies. In 2002 she received her MFA at the Maryland Institute College of Art in Baltimore, Maryland. She has had solo exhibitions at Montage Gallery in Baltimore between 1999 and 2001, at the School 33 Art Center in Baltimore in 2002, and at the Delaware Center for the Contemporary Arts in 2005. She has also shown her work in numerous group shows, including Select: WPA/Corcoran 2003 Art Auction, at the Corcoran Museum in Washington DC, 2003, the Member's Juried Exhibition at the Delaware Center for the Contemporary Arts, Willimington, Delaware, 2003, New at the Rockville Arts Place in Rockville, Maryland 2003, Art Basel in Miami Florida, 2002, Multiplicity, Gallery Four in Baltimore and Academy 2001 and 2002 Conner Contemporary Art Gallery in Washington DC. In 2007, Between the Line at Maryland Art Place in Baltimore, Maryland.

She currently teaches Sumi Ink Painting at the Maryland Institute College of Art.
