Description
Let me tell you a little story about a skinny shortstop named Cal Ripken Jr. The son of a coach, Cal was inserted in the lineup for the Baltimore Orioles for the first time on May 30, 1982. And there he stayed, playing every day, for a remarkable 16 seasons, never once missing a game until he voluntarily took himself out of the lineup on September 20, 1998. It was a legendary fete of endurance, a total of 2,632 consecutive games played. Oh, and let us not forget this Hall-of-Famers other, more ho-hum achievements:
1982 Rookie of the Year
1983, 1991 MVP
19-time All-Star
The photo you're bidding on was taken the night Cal broke Lou Gehrig's historic consecutive games played marked. Yeah, that's Cal at the plate lining a single to left. You'll notice his autograph accompanied by a Certificate of Authenticity.
