The Daily Record's inaugural issue in 1888 indicated its purpose: "To provide a comprehensive digest of events transpiring in legal and commercial affairs for the information and reference of lawyers, real estate agents, merchants, bankers, stockbrokers and the general public."

Today, more than a century later, The Daily Record keeps faith with its original purpose, but has added a broader audience and expanded its scope.
