Description

Do you wonder how a road is built, what goes into the design of a bridge, or why all those potholes aren't patched?

Spend some time with a Kentucky Transportation Cabinet Civil Engineer and have these questions answered and many more!

John E. Callihan, PE, is a civil engineer who manages any major road work or bridge work in the state.  If you are good in math and science, ask John if being a civil engineer is for you!

Civil engineers design things. These might be roads, buildings, airports, tunnels, dams, bridges, or water supply and sewage systems. They must consider many factors in their designs, from the costs to making sure the structure will stay intact during bad weather. This is one of the oldest types of engineering.
