Description

Rhododendrons of China, published in 1980 by Binford & Mort, Portland, Oregon. This attractive hardbound book, in new condition, is a translation of the rhododendron section from Volume III of Iconographia Cormophytorum Sinicorum, Beijing Botanical Research Institute of Academia Sinica, 1974. Publication was jointly sponsored by the American Rhododendron Society and the Rhododendron Species Foundation. The book consists of 283 botanical descriptions of native Chinese rhododendron species with a key to the species, translated from Chinese to English by Judy Young and Dr. Lu-sheng Chong of Seattle, Washington. Each description includes an enlarged reproduction of the original detailed line drawing of the plant, as well as the Latin name and the Chinese name in characters, Pinyin romanization, and English translation. The translators also prepared special reference sections, including an English-Chinese glossary of botanical terms, a geographic index of place names in Chinese characters and Pinyin, and an introductory guide to Pinyin pronunciation of Chinese.

This book would make a delightful gift for anyone interested in the flora or native plants of China.  The book will be inscribed to the winning bidder (or the book's intended recipient) by the translators.
