Tom Ashbrook is host of National Public Radio's news and interview show, "On Point." (See http://www.onpointradio.org/ for more details.) Mr. Ashbrook is a career journalist who spent ten years in Asia, based in India, Hong Kong and Japan. Mr. Ashbrook currently serves on Yale-China's Board of Trustees, and was a Yale-China Bachelor at The Chinese University of Hong Kong, 1977-79.
Before joining the Boston Globe in 1981, Mr. Ashbrook worked at Hong Kong's TVB-Pearl and the South China Morning Post. At the Globe, he served as Tokyo bureau chief, foreign editor, and finally deputy managing editor. In 2001, after an interlude in new media entrepreneurship, he was enlisted to host emergency coverage of the 9/11 attacks for NPR through WBUR, Boston, which produces "On Point."
Tom holds a BA from Yale and spent a junior year at Andhra University in India. He was awarded the Livingston Prize for national reporting in 1989, and in 1995 was awarded a Nieman Fellowship at Harvard. The following year he co-founded the $72 million Internet start-up HomePortfolio.com, a venture chronicled in his 2000 book The Leap.
