Description
This vivid action shot is a must-have for Yali Middle School-enthusiasts or would make a great gift for someone with a connection to Yali Middle School or to Changsha.
This photo is a scanned reprint from an original shot from the Yale-China Association archives. The photo is also featured in the book, "The Yale-China Association: A Centennial History," by Nancy E. Chapman with Jessica C. Plumb. In the book, Chapman writes, "Physical fitness had not been stressed in Chinese elite culture, and the early [Yale-in-China Bachelors] found their students lacking in strength and endurance. With the move to the new campus, Yale-in-China finally had sufficient facilities for an active sports program, and students at the Yali Middle School in particular proved themselves avid athletes, winning numerous province-wide soccer championships. In 1935 and 1936 trans-Pacific track meets were even organized between Yali Middle School and Hillhouse High School in New Haven, with the results exchanged by cable." The photograph is an 8"x10" black and white image. Photograph comes with a custom-cut white mat for an 11"x14" frame. Frame not included.
