Description

We know you love your pet! Protect them with a heartworm test at Arbor Ridge Pet Clinic.

The first outward signs of heartworm disease may not be apparent until a year after infection. In dogs, it may begin simply as a soft cough, but can end with difficulty breathing, lethargy, decreased appetite, weight loss, heart failure, and death. Severity depends on the number of heartworms present. Infected cats have signs that mimic other diseases. They may experience vomiting, difficult or rapid breathing, fainting, seizures, blindness, coughing, loss of appetite and weight loss. Heartworms can attack animals of all ages. If puppies, kittens, dogs or cats are exposed to mosquitoes carrying infective larvae, they can be infected. In the battle against heartworm disease, it is better to be "safe than sorry." Heartworm testing is an important part of a heartworm prevention program. Testing ensures that your pet is free of adult heartworms, and ready to start or continue on heartworm preventive medication.
