The bottom of a wood-carved basket is from the original logging cut of the tree. The handle on the basket is one of the roots that has grown underneath. This root has attached itself naturally to the opposite side of the root structure, and once formed becomes a natural handle. Careful planning in the carving phase preserves one of the main roots for use as the handle, while the interior is hollowed out forming the basket itself. The basket has a small crack at the base of one of the handles, but it does not affect the use of the handle.
