About the Artist 

Barbara was born in North Carolina...migrated as a grammar school student to Massachusetts...studied at the School of the Museum of Fine Arts and has long been active in the art community. She was the visual arts coordinator for the MayorÕs Office of Cultural Affairs, Boston. She has painted murals at Boston City Hospital, the old Dudley Station, and a sidewalk mural in West Roxbury. Barbara organized the Boston chapter of WEB (Women Exhibiting in Boston) and has earned numerous scholarships and awards, including Globe Scholastic, Ford Foundation, and NAACP. She has exhibited in 20 art shows and at the Department of Labor, Washington, D. C. Her commissions include portraits of Melnea Cass/Cass Branch YWCA; Clarence Jeep Jones; Senator Bill Owens; logo for Ebony Cab Company and other miscellaneous works. Barbara has been quoted in Towards A Peoples Art by John Weber on the history of murals; featured on Artist of the Week; video taped interview 1988 as a member of the Boston Afro-American Artists Association, NEWOCA, and S. P. A. C. E. An Artistic Community, Inc. Barbara is a retired Graphic Arts Technician.
