Located on Buffalo Speedway, Vietopia's ceilings are cathedral-tall, and the curvy stone-tiled walls, serpentine bar and light hardwood floors enhance the breezily deluxe feel. Most striking of all, though, are the fans. The ones hanging from the ceiling suggest steamship propellers with palmetto-fan blades. And on the back wall is a row of palmetto fans that wave slowly in unison like beauty queens on a parade float.

Vietopia offers some upscale food to match its upscale look. For roasted duck with fried sticky-rice patties, the kitchen roasts the pieces of bird a deep mahogany color, but the surprisingly grease-free meat somehow retains its moistness. The plump rice patties are fried a crispy golden brown, and the honey-garlic sauce that accompanies the dish is nothing less than intoxicating. Its earthy sweetness is a wonderful complement to the duck and the crispy rice patties are addictive.
