Gabrielle Saveri is a local artist who splits her time between Napa and San Francisco. Over the past two decades, Gabrielle has had a successful career as a journalist and television producer. After receiving a B.A. in History from Brown University and an M.A. in Journalism from New York University, Gabrielle went to work as a reporter for Newsweek Magazine in Hong Kong and New York. She subsequently moved to Rome, became the Italian Correspondent for People Magazine, In Style, and other Time-Warner publications. During the course of her career, Gabrielle has written for other leading news publications/agencies including Business Week, The Associated Press, The International Environment reporter, Cucina Magazine, and the San Francisco Chronicle. After working as a print journalist, Gabrielle worked in Los Angeles for a number of years as a writer and producer on a number of programs for networks including Discovery, Discovery Health, The Travel Planet, UPN, Fox Family Channel and Lifetime Network. Looking to make a career change, Gabrielle recently returned home to the Bay Area, applied to art school, and now, when she's not working, focuses as much time as she can on her painting. Gabrielle is thrilled to be a contributing donor/artist to Cirque de la Symphonie!

The Painting: My painting, "Dancing in a Foreign Land," evokes an other-worldly dance in a futuristic landscape. Four individuals dance to a kaleidoscopic, different beat in a vibrant world of pulsating sound and color. Reality and fantasy merge, as the dancers spin and flow to unique, lunar rhythms. This painting is an experimental and historical record of a wild and whacky musical event, captured in real life -- but which, upon closer look, appears almost extraterrestrial. To me, this scene represents the beauty, freedom, and enormous creative potential that can be found through music and fine art in all kinds of unusual settings -- even in a bizarre, playful, foreign world like this one, in the middle of a beautiful white-sand desert not too far away.
