Michele Mitcavish was born in Michigan where she received her BFA degree in oil painting. She also spent two summers abroad landscape painting in southern France. Upon completing her degree she relocated to upstate New York teaching landscape painting and drawing in the community. Moving back to Michigan, she started a five year relationship with a local glass company and became enamored with glass, learning multiple techniques and teaching the public. After one more move to the Bay Area, Michele worked for an architectural glass company, assisting in transcribing art into glass and fabricating. She now runs her own studio in Napa, where she is an educator and artist.
Michele has spent the last 20 years accumulating multiple techniques, ideas, and skills and is now currently putting those to work. Educating the public has always been important, the glass world has taught her that. Her study is full of bustling students most of the year which produces a lot of creative energy.
The fine art she is now producing is a mixture of glass, painting, and metals. Nature and its wonders has always been a key ingredient to her work. But her emotional side has always dictated the colors and the fludity of the brush stroke she uses. Glass is a bit harder to express one's self in a fluid manner so painting really helps get the ideas out immediately. As time goes on and life ebbs and flows so will her artwork. The artwork produced is an accumulation of life experiences and skills collected along the way.
