"All true paths lead through mountains" growls this classic environmentalist manifesto. Written in the spring of 1969 as part of the movement to stop the spread of nuclear power, the sutra positions Smokey the Bear, as the great protector, a fierce bodhisattva "whose responsibility is to protect life down to the smallest little creature." The original artwork is by Lorraine Capparell, whom Inquiring Mind commissioned to illustrate the sutra for our Earth Dharma issue (Fall 2005).
