Lita Albuquerque was born in Santa Monica and was raised in Tunisia, North Africa, and Paris, France. She first gained attention in the 1970s with her epic and poetic ephemeral pigment pieces created for desert sites. Now, she is renowned internationally for her installation, painting, and sculpture work. She is committed to developing a visual language that brings the realities of vast time and space to a more human scale. She is widely acclaimed for her ephemeral and permanent art works executed in the natural landscape in public sites. Albuquerque’s work is included in the archives of American Art at the Smithsonian Institute and is part of the collections of prominent museums and foundations such as the Museum of Contemporary Art in Los Angeles, and the J. Paul Getty Trust.
