Brooks Manbeck was born in Brooklyn, New York. He attended California State University, Long Beach, earning a B.F.A. in Photography. His equipment includes a 1970's Canon rangefinder camera with a fixed lens and sometimes a handheld flash. Brooks likes to work with black and white film but has recently been experimenting with color. He prefers to keep moving and capture as many moments as possible. After working in a production photo studio for three years, Brooks developed an eye for studio lighting and likes to search the "real world" for examples of this lighting. He also continues to shoot from his motorcycle, where the compact camera enables him to both live and capture the moment. He currently lives in Westminster.
