Todd Matus was born in 1958 and received a B.A. from University of Michigan and a M.F.A. in Photography from Southern Illinois University. He creates photographs that are austere and unsentimental, providing a stark and enigmatic interpretation of his subjects, whether landscapes or violins. He is currently the Vice President and C.O.O. of Consort International, L.P., manufacturers of fine violins, violas, and cellos. Matus traces his artistic lineage to the generation of New Topographic photographers such as Lewis Baltz, Joe Deal, and Robert Adams.
