Jay McCafferty, born in 1948 in San Pedro, California, earned a B.A. from Los Angeles State University and an M.F.A. from University of California, Irvine. He employs a unique technique using “solar burns,” created by burning holes in paper with a magnifying glass and other media, to create abstract, vibrant and energetic work. McCafferty was awarded both a LACMA New Talent Award and an NEA Fellowship. His work is included in the collections of, among others, the Los Angeles Museum of Contemporary Art, IBM and Microsoft. He is represented by Mark Moore Gallery.
