David Meanix was born in 1969 in West Chester, Pennsylvania and studied Interdisciplinary Art at San Francisco State University. He pioneered a technique that he had dubbed “photosculpture,” which is an amalgamation of the use of photography and sculpture. In photosculpture, the artist makes an original three-dimensional portrait sculpture out of prepared photographic images, and then re-photographs the sculpture in new surroundings. Meanix explores the use of photosculpture as a means to epitomize the constant conflict between change and growth and the destructive force of creation. He received 2nd place in the New Photography Competition at the Los Angeles County Fair in 2001. His work can be found in many private collections and in scores of galleries and exhibitions in California, New York, and New Jersey. Meanix has also exhibited at the Royal University of Fine Arts in Sweden, and New York and New Jersey. His work can also be seen on the HBO television series Six Feet Under.
