Like A Flower Thy Spirit Did Depart, 2007
Acrylic on antique ironing board
52 x 11"
Jill Young began drawing and painting as a small child. She was inspired by the light glinting off the sagging leaded windows of Victorian homes that once stood in the hills just east of downtown Los Angeles. In college she turned to writing and while a student helped produce an acclaimed series of poetry readings, first at the House of Chan and later at the Works Gallery in Long Beach. During this time she published widely in poetry journals, as well as giving many readings in the Southern California area. After graduating she moved to Los Angeles and created a business as a decorative painter. In the last fifteen years she has returned to still-life and portraiture.
