Haley Doty was born in 1978 in Torrance, California. She received her B.F.A. from California State University, Long Beach, in 2000. Her artistic beginnings were similar to that of cave artists, recreating her favorite cartoon characters in Crayola on her bedroom wall at the age of four. Doty began painting when she was eleven years old, and has exhibited in several small group shows in the Long Beach area. Her work currently explores the relationships between spiritualism, surreal abstractions and human experience. Utilizing iconic imagery recognizable throughout multiple cultures, Doty reflects her personal experiences while creating a sense of universality that transcends geographic borders.
