Sam Durant was born in 1961 in Seattle Washington. He earned his B.F.A. from Massachusetts College of Art and his M.F.A. from the California Institute of the Arts. He was the Ordway Prize finalist in 2005, and was the recipient of the 2006 United States Artists Grant. His work is included in a number of major international public collections including the Guggenheim Museum, Stedelijk Museum voor Actuele Kunst in Ghent, Belgium, the Museum of Contemporary Art in Los Angeles, and the Berkeley Art Museum. He has exhibited widely throughout the United States and internationally in over fifteen countries, including Greece, Austria, Italy, France, and Japan. He is currently living and working in Los Angeles, California.
