Tommy Freeman is an artist, educator and art critic based in Los Angeles, California. Although his undergraduate work at the San Francisco Art Institute focused primarily on painting, his direction during graduate school, at Ohio University and California State University, Long Beach, shifted to more conceptually driven sculptures and installations. The work he produces now investigates various cultural conditions such as commodity fetishism, consumerism, subjectivity in late capitalism, and the troubled status of art and/or taste. In addition to making art, Freeman has taught studio classes and lectured at several colleges and universities. He also regularly contributes to several art journals and magazines, including Art Week, Art US, Art Review, and X-tra.
