Item Number: 168
Time Left: CLOSED
Description
World-renowned video artist Bill Viola invites you and three guests into his studio in Signal Hill, California to view the master at work on a large-scale commission. Tour must take place on a mutually agreed-upon date between October 1 and November 30, 2007. Winner must contact either Gene Zazzaro or Dianna Santillano at the studio for arrangements.
Bill Viola, pioneer of video art, is internationally recognized as one of today’s leading artists, instrumental in the establishment of video as a vital form of contemporary art. For over 35 years he has created videotapes, architectural video installations, sound environments, electronic music performances, flat panel video pieces, and works for television broadcast, exhibiting extensively worldwide, including at the Whitney Museum of American Art in New York, the J. Paul Getty Museum in Los Angeles, and the National Gallery in London. Viola’s video installations—total environments that envelop the viewer in image and sound—explore the phenomena of sense perception as an avenue to self-knowledge, and focus on universal human experiences—birth, death, the unfolding of consciousness. Viola and Kira Perov, his wife and long-time collaborator, live and work in Long Beach, California.
