Description

Carlos Cordero

Untitled, 2006

Oil on canvas

8 x 6”

Carlos Cordero first took an interest in painting when working as an assistant for the acclaimed Los Angeles muralist Judith Baca at age 18. After graduating from high school, Cordero was awarded art scholarships and he opted to attend California State University Long Beach to earn a B.F.A. in Drawing and Painting. Growing up in the rural outskirts of Torres Martinez Reservation, Cordero was always deeply affected and interested in his surrounding environment. He now seeks to depict his impression of industrial Los Angeles and the longing for nature. In his oil paintings, he steers away from traditional landscape painting. He is more interested in depicting ephemeral and atmospheric spaces from memory, which become haunting and dreamlike allegories. In his painting he depicts both the harmony and disconnection between people today and their surroundings.   Cordero lives and works in Long Beach, California.
