This is a serving tray made of Reverse Painted Glass, with a wooden frame, hand-painted in Peru by local artisans working in their own cottage industry.

The art of Reverse Painting on Glass was brought to Peru by the Spanish in the 1500's, who themselves brought it from Venice. The process requires the design to be meticulously painted in the reverse on the glass and then placed paint-side down into the frame. The result is a stunning work of art!
