Take the online test at the Practical Perfectionist and see if this is you!
Most of us get an occasional streak of perfectionism. A little of it is fine. But it can be a real problem if you often believe that whatever you are doing must be 100% right or else it is completely wrong. Perfectionism is not about doing a job to the best of your abilities. It's about trying to achieve the impossible. The result is wasted time and energy and a general feeling of disappointment or self-blame. Even worse, it can cause you to hold yourself back from success and enjoyment. What does it look like? Some examples include:
- Reluctance to accept a promotion because you don't have all the experience
- Procrastination because you're not ready to take action
- Slow decision-making because you need just a little more information...
- Inability to delegate because no one will do things as well as can do them
- Focusing on mistakes made by you or others
If you or someone you know gets caught in the negative cycle of perfectionism, Francine Gordon can help.
