Description
Planet Granite has two world-class, 15,000 sq.ft. climbing facilities (in Sunnyvale and Belmont) designed to provide an incredible training ground for experienced climbers, an ideal learning environment for first-time climbers, and plenty of varied terrain for all levels and ages.
Planet Granite offers 110-130 top ropes reaching up to 60 foot heights, indoor and outdoor bouldering areas including a cave, realistic hand-carved cracks, and enough overhanging and long vertical lead terrain to pump out the strongest climbers.
If you are new to climbing, our specially designed courses and beginner climbing routes are the perfect way to discover the sport that has been sweeping the nation.
To climb the tall climbing structures, every climber must tie into a climbing rope and have a climbing partner on the ground managing the rope. The rope management is called “belaying”. Every roped climber needs a Planet Granite-certified belayer managing his or her rope. New climbers, who come to the gym with a certified belayer, can try roped climbing without gym staff instruction but they cannot belay. New climbers with no belaying experience must take this Belay Lesson or Beginner Rock Climbing Course to learn rope management.
Special Instructions
Planet Granite offers Belay Lessons every day but Wednesdays. Class size is limited to 4 people to insure personal attention so classes fill up quickly. Reservations are strongly recommended. Class participants will be allowed to belay on the day of their course but will be required to take the belay test for belay certification on their next visit to the gym.
