This one-of-a-kind Ammolite Pendant is 2"L and 5/8"W, handcrafted in a 14 kt. gold setting.  This pendant includes a 17" black cord, and will also look fabulous on your own gold chain.

In 1981, ammolite became recognized by the CIBJO (The Colored Stones Commission).  It is the latest of only three new gemstones introduced in the last 50 years.

Ammolite is one of the most wonderful gems, full of flash and fire and just about any color you can think of.  It is the fossilized shell of the extinct sea creature ammonite.  When a fossil is intact and continues to look like an ammonite shell, it is called an ammonite, even when the outer surface is beautiful gem ammolite. There are strict Canadian laws that prevent the destruction of these intact fossils. When there is no recognizable fossil, just the gem ammolite, then the term ammolite is used.

No other gem comes in such a range of colors and patterns or has such vivid iridescence. Ammolite is often thought of as the romance stone, because it is full of warmth, fire, life, and unexpected changes. The colors of ammolite represent the harmonious balance of fire, earth, metal, water, and wood.  Considered sacred by the Blood Indians.

Ammolite is highly reactive to light. The light source, the angle and intensity of the light, and your viewing angle will all impact the colors seen.  Sometimes subtle and sometimes spectacularly dramatic, a chromatic shift occurs.  Red will shift to green, green will shift to blue, etc.

Each piece of ammolite is unique and different. If you fall in love with a stone, buy it.  You will never find another one exactly like it again!

Ammolite is considered an organic gemstone, as is a pearl. You are normally safe if you treat your ammolite like you would treat your pearls.
