Description

This is a spay point single bladed pocket knife. Blade: O1 oil hardening tool steel, 1/8th inch thick, with French pull nail slot, serial number 0356. Solid brass barlow style bolsters, pins, and liners with "Oil" reminder stamp on the off mark side front bolster. Back spring 1095 high carbon steel, with a lanyard loop integral to the spring. Natural moose bone handles (what was one of Thoreau's last two words?). (Until 2006 this moose bone was running about west of Moose head Lake in Somerset County, Maine.) Overall length open, 6 5/8ths inches; OAL closed, 4 inches; blade length to choile 2 3/8ths inches. No factory edge---caution, hand honed and razor sharp. Guaranteed for materials and workmanship. All parts hand made by, and all heat treatment of spring and blade done at the shop of Dr. Wm. L. Reid of New Sharon, Maine.

Dr. Reid is a life member of the Thoreau Society since 1964, and a hand maker of knives since 1952. [note: The bone is actually bone white, not the yellow found in the pictures.]
