Description
"I found in myself, and still find, an instinct toward a higher, or, as it is named, spiritual life, as do most men, and another toward a primitive rank and savage one, and I reverence them both. I love the wild not less than the good." Thoreau, Walden Ronald A. Bosco, Past President of the Thoreau and Emerson Societies, and Jayne Gordon, Director of Education, Mass Hist., team up to present a two-day program of lectures, discussions and workshops in the place of your choice.
"From Walden to the West: Thoreau's Spiritual and Savage Journeys" (Bosco) and "Shots Heard 'Round the World': Volleys from Concord" (Gordon). Each lecture will be followed by group discussion.
As part of the package, the team will also lead one of the following workshops, the topic of which will be selected by the winning bidder(s):
□ Thoreau and the Natural Environment □ Thoreau and Society □ Thoreau and Living Deliberately □ Thoreau in the Classroom (for high school and/or college teachers) □ Discussion of a Thoreau work of your choice (book or essay)
While the presenters envision afternoon or early evening lectures on the first day and a full day workshop on the second, the order of this two-day program would be adapted to best serve the audience after the presenters consult with the winning bidder(s).
