Description

The print is 129 from the Limited Edition of 525 by artist Samuel Ingwersen A.I.A.  Oakmont's par 5 9th is considered an easy birdie for the pros.  At the completion of 72 holes of the 1962 US Open Championship at Oakmont, Arnold Palmer, considered the favorite, & Jack Nicklaus were tied at 283.  At the 9th hole of the play off round the gallery sensed that Arnold, who was 4 down, might begin his characteristic charge.  He birdied #9 to his opponent's par 5.  Palmer pulled within one shot on the 13th, but his rally ended with another 3 putt, an incident that would occur 10 times during the 90 holes.  The winner, Jack Nicklaus would 3 putt only once.  Oakmont's greens would not be taken for granted or be forgotten.
