Description
Newport artist Richard Grosvenor loves to depict local sites with stories to tell, as in "Spring Pond, NYYC." The initials may stand for New York Yacht Club but consider: Two days after the club was founded in 1844, members raced to Newport and they've had a presence here ever since. Their local home is Harbour Court, on the Newport shore. This pond, depicted in springtime, is there.
Operator of Newport's Spring Bull Studio and Gallery, Richard Grosvenor headed up the Art Department at Newport's St. George's School for 40 years. He paints in oil and watercolor and has had several solo shows here and in New York. A Grosvenor painting of the White House was featured in a calendar commissioned by President and Mrs. Clinton.
