Description

A former commercial fisherman, largely self-taught as an artist, Walter specializes in capturing the New England coastline he knows - and obviously loves - so well. This dramatic seascape takes in the view from Newport's Brenton Point, looking towards Jamestown. The sun is setting in the west on a hazy day, as the surf rolls into the coast. In the foreground, rays of sunlight breaking through the clouds penetrate the wave crests, turning the water translucent and giving a warm glow to the foam. In the distance, mist veils the coast, while midway, the headlands of Horse Head Point and Castle Hill stand out against the horizon.
