This is a just-completed, oil-on-board original jointly donated by its creator, famed Newport artist John MacGowan, and Jessica Hagen Fine Art + Design, also of Newport. John MacGowan's love of the sea is legendary; he's been a crewmember in five America's Cup campaigns, and he's painted coastal scenery on several continents. Perhaps, though, he is best known with international collectors for his ability to capture our own city-by-the-sea - and his hometown - Newport. With its sense of calm and serenity, this work is a fascinating departure for MacGowan, who typically focuses on what he terms "action painting."
