Right here in Central Park children will:
• Explore and identify trees, flowers, birds, animals and aquatic life
• Document their discoveries with digital cameras, sketch pads and notebooks
• Create a field journal which they take home at the end of the course
• Do fun educational initiatives that bring them in touch with the natural world and help them understand environmental issues
• Hike and learn camp craft including knot tying, tent set-up and “Leave No Trace” principals
• Go Fishing (catch and release only), and discuss the food chain of fish, conservation, and the rules/laws that apply.
The program’s creator, Thom Schuchaskie, is a PS 75 parent who worked as a wilderness instructor for Outward Bound and Education Through Adventure for the past 10 years. He is currently enrolled at Queens College in the Masters program for Physical Education.
