"Hoops of Gold" Photograph by Jan Walker

Item Number: 253
Time Left: CLOSED
Description
Hoops of Gold shows the hoops that carry the sail up the mast when
sails are hoisted on a traditionally rigged schooner. The early
evening light creates a beautiful golden glow on the hoops, mast, and
rigging. It is part of a photo series of schooners under sail. The
photograph is a digital image, printed with archival inks on glossy
paper. The 12 x 16 inch image is professionally framed with archival
materials to 19 x 23 inches. The gold tone in the frame complements
those in the print.
The photographer, Jan Walker, is a life-long artist in many media:
photographs, watercolors, clay, words, music, food, and computer
interfaces. A Cape Ann resident since 1990, she has pursued
self-directed sudies in all of these arts, particularly in
watercolors with Cape Ann master teachers Martin Ahearn and Betty Lou
Schlemm. She responds most strongly to form, line, and value, the
abstract formal properties within the scenes of everyday life. A
photographer since the age of 8, she sees striking beauty everywhere
and works to capture those moments for all to enjoy.
She is a member of Cambridge Art Association and a photography member
of Rockport Art Association. Her work appears in a permanent display
at the Mystic Seaport Museum. During her membership in the gallery,
she presented several solo shows at Local Colors in Gloucester MA.
