New York Giants outfielder Willie Mays, pulled the most spectacular catch in World Series history when he hauled down Cleveland Indian's Vic Wertz' 440 foot drive during the first game at the Polo Grounds in 1954. Mays made this catch in deepest center field, running with his back to home plate.  The Giants defeated the Indians 5-2 in 10 innings.
