Andreé Valley started he career as a clay artist working primarily in porcelain. The patterns in his work are often symbols used to describe rocks and other landforms, as depicted on geologic maps. Valley's work is an abstraction of these symbols. Layering, and the complication of viewing one shape and pattern through another, he likens to the chaotic order nature presents to us.
