Frederick Doar is a gestural expressionist.  Gestural Expressionism, (GESEX) was founded on the principles of action painting as initiated and investigated by the one and only, Jackson Pollock.  Mr Doar’s style descends from the classical school of abstract expressionism with a gestural grounding.  His medium is oil on canvas.  He leans on DeKooning for the development of character and depth and he is indebted to Rothko for his explorations of color consciousness. 

His studio is located in Sausalito, California, near the water.  Sometimes he paints a great deal with several works in process simultaneously, and other times he spends hours observing finished works in different lighting situations.   His goal is to create with a unique style using self-taught techniques.  He continues to develop and refine his techniques as his painting style evolves.
