Then he or she needs to experience this marine engineering and ship operation shadow day at Matson Navigation, one of the world's oldest and most successful shipping companies.

Your student will spend part of the day at the corporate headquarters in downtown Oakland learning how Matson's fleet of container and "roll on/roll off" ships are operated and maintained.  Then it will be time to get on board a ship, meet the captain and chief engineer and see a main propulsion engine piston heavier than the Urban Suburban and a diesel engine that has more horsepower than 150 Urban Suburbans!
