First Edition published in 1880 by American Publishing Company, Hartford, CT.  Original dark brown cloth pictorially decorated in gilt.  This copy has the engraved frontispiece in the second and usual state, captioned "Titian's Moses;" the binding has the curved inner corners of the blindstamped border. The cloth does appear to be dark brown rather than black - a variation not mentioned by Blanck. Condition is near-fine, with a very slight rubbing at the extremities, and an unorthodox bookplate.  Edition signed by Mark Twain (printed, not autographed).
