Description

Beautiful hand-woven tapestry of hand-dyed wool by Karen Benjamin.

Ms. Benjamin started her art career as a painter, and by 1993 her paintings had begun to evolve as abstractions of geometric designs, a significant departure from the realistic rendering of portraits and landscapes she had favored in earlier works.

Living in Santa Fe, Ms. Benjamin became enamored with textiles of this area: the flat, geometric designs and the wonderful texture and "hand" of the woven surface. Mastering the techniques of woven tapestry, she was able to combine her interest in color with Amish quilt designs, Navajo geometry and the Southwestern landscape. Using her yarns in a painterly way,

Benjamin brings her love for color and luminosity to her work.  Inspired by the Native American and Hispanic designs, her works have been exhibited at The Albuquerque Museum, Center for Contemporary Art, St. Louis, MO, Academy of Arts & Design, Tsinghua University, Beijing, PRC, and Norah Harris Eccles Museum of Art, Utah State University, Logan, UT. She is represented by Thirteen Moons Gallery in Santa Fe.

Dimensions are 47" H x 36" W.  This masterly work is easy to install and comes with an invisible hanger.

This is a Live Event Item.
