Description
In 1970, Gary Loch was one of the first eleven Art students who registered with Erik Rudans and the Art Department at St. Cloud State University to design and build the first glassworking studio in Central Minnesota. In 1975, he received his Masters of Fine Arts degree from the University of Wisconsin-Madison, in sculpture and glassworking. In 1978, he was hired by SCSU to manage the glassworking studio and teach glass blowing, stained glass design, technique and traditions.
This glass vessel that LEAF is auctioning was blown in 1987, the last year he blew glass. The core of the vessel is a heavy iron green glass rolled in silver. The heart/leaf motif was typical of 19" century American glass companies like Durand and Quetzel. Loch is often surprised, these days, when he runs across a piece with his name on the bottom in antique stores.
Height: 8 3/4”
Width: 5”
