Altamura is owned and operated by Napa Valley natives Frank and Karen Altamura. The property has been in the family since the 1850s and the winery was established in 1985. The 1997 Cabernet Sauvignon is a blend of 100% Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon fruit from their hillside and valley floor vineyards in Wooden Valley in the southeastern hillsides of the Napa Valley. At elevations of 700 to 1000 feet, the soils are varied; they can be similar to those of the Rutherford bench, but also like the mountainous regions such as Mount Veeder and Howell Mountain.
