You'll be hard pressed to find anything conventional at Nalle Winery. The winery building, referred to as "the potato bunker," is a rosemary coiffed above-ground cave. The wines are contrarian: Old Vine Dry Creek Zinfandel under 14% alcohol and finesse-style Russian River Pinot Noir and Chardonnay. Owned and operated by Lee and Doug Nalle with their son, Andrew, as winemaker, Nalle rests on land that has been in Lee's family since 1927.

Enjoy three bottles, all signed by Doug: a 2005 Nalle Russian River Valley Pinot Noir, a 2005 Nalle Dry Creek Valley Cuisine Cinque, and a 2006 Nalle Russian River Valley Sauvignon Blanc.
