Australian wine has become such a hot commodity that many of the most desirable wines disappear from the market as soon as they appear. It's the same phenomenon that makes Burgundies from tiny domains, the latest super Tuscans, and trendy California Cabernets so hard to find.

These two hard-to-find Down Under delights were carried back to Kansas City by the Chesters: a 1998 Australian Domaine Wines The Hattrick, "Medium red-ruby?Superripe, sweet and pliant in the mouth" (RP 90), only 500 cases made, and one 2002 Moss Wood Winery Chardonnay Margaret River, "Racy and minerally on the palate, with a deep core of citrus and melon flavor." (RP 93), only 26 cases imported.
