Description
In 1883, Don Melchor de Concha y Toro brought the most noble of the Bordeaux region's wine grape stocks to Chile, founding Vi?a Concha y Toro. The Puente Alto Vineyard in the Maipo Valley has the perfect combination of climate and soils for producing world-class wine: the climate is ideal and predictable, and the soil is poor and gravelly to reduce yields and increase concentration naturally.
The 2001 and 2003 vintages were both ranked the #4 wines in the world by Wine Spectator, respectively. The 2001 has a "... a powerful yet very silky palate of cassis, plum, blackberry...that glide through a superlong finish" (WS 95) while the 2003 "...full-scale Cabernet sports dark fig, currant, and blackberry fruit, layered with loam, cedar, tobacco, mineral and coffee." (WS 96)
